Chamberlain needed to negotiate some time. Britain was not at all ready to go to war. Germany was much, much more prepared.
Had the situation in Europe been accelerated by 1 year, Britain could not have withstood a German invasion when the time came, and Hitler would have been much more confident about taking them.
After taking Britain, Hitler would have had only one front against the Russians, could well have driven them out of Europe the first year and settled into very good defensive positions.
And America would have been trying to fight a European war against Hitler without the advantage of Britain as a staging ground.
(The B-29 bomber was originally conceived to be able to fly from Newfoundland to Europe and back, not for the long distances in the Pacific.)
Chamberlain was successful beyond what he knew. For once examine the pap you were fed as a kid.
