What's really scary is that many, perhaps all, of those playing tricks with the numbers sincerely believe they are being scrupulously honest and fair and have done everything possible to be objective in their research. Unlike the hard sciences, researchers in the social and behavioral sciences rarely look at a printout or a graph and say to themselves "Man, I had it all wrong!" Like I said, science is easy.
