...I have a feeling that potential terrorists will not be rafting in from Cuba or swimming the Rio Grande. They'll probably have meticulously forged student visas and come in by airliner, or they'll be French-speaking Moroccans in Armani suits with Belgian passports. Or maybe even merchant seamen aboard ships full of nitrate fertilizer.

There have been a LOT of Middle Easterners joining the crowd coming up from Mexico. It seems obvious that an existing and workable system of smuggling both people and goods across the border could be exploited by terrorists.

As with so many issues in this country, we have been deluded into thinking its an "evil heartless conservative versus flaky unreasonable liberal" issue.

I don't think anyone here has said things like this. It's pretty obvious that both sides of the political aisle find something to gain by kicking the problem down the road, or actually encouraging it.
