Folly is folly, defeat is defeat.
The numbers differ, the operating principles are the same.
Ill-planned, ill-executed, and tremendous losses because of a refusal to admit defeat and retreat. Done at the whim of an egomaniacal leader. Done to expropriate the resources of the to-be conquered country, resulting in lost of people, respect, humiliation and treasure.
Identical in those respects. Conservatives would claim that it's not identical to Vietnam, either, in important respects. And that's again clearly folly.
