Surrender monkeys aren't created by politics, but rather human nature prefers to avoid conflict when possible. The media knows this and that is why all news articles about Iraq usually start off with casualties.
Reinforcing death is the best way to send a message of hopelessness and futility, making the readers think success is absolutely impossible.
It was done with the Vietnam war and it worked. Time-Life made a full court press against the Johnson administration and Johnson just finished his term and walked away with the 'baby-killer' and 'kick me' tags still taped to his back by the major media.
If the media were counting daily how many kids drop out of school daily, folks would be equally desperate about our schools:
1,231 Children Dropped out of US Schools Yesterday
Highest Single Day Drop Out Rate Yet For US Schools: 3,526
Continued Exodus: 8,943 Drop Out This Week
If the daily statistics were rolled out the way they are doing with deaths in Iraq, we'd have Americans crawling the walls about our schools in much the same way they are climbing the walls about Iraq.
The sense of utter futility is so easy to paint in the media. Unfortunately, many Americans succumb like sheep to the media hypnotic suggestion. Just keep the propaganda going:
Giant Monthly Toll in US Schools for April: 52,165
Education Officials Can't Stop Exodus.

It's so easy to do, a child could do it. Unfortunately, a large number of Americans believe what the media tells them and lets the media shape their views about anything. It takes too much time to figure things out by oneself, and many Americans simply weren't educated to filter media propaganda. Most Americans, in fact, have been trained to eat it up as part of their time-wasting, daily media-entertainment emotional placebo.
The result is that the media can control US policy after enough time passes. They can use their soapbox to cause dissatisfaction with anything. And they can indoctrinate the masses to all think alike about many issues. If a set X contains Y amount of variables and all of Y are negative, there is no chance for set X to be positive. Americans who hold a positive view of what America is doing in the Middle East are either not reading the major media or have a much larger group of variables in their set.
So by influencing the masses, the 'media elite' feel empowered. They may not have been elected, but they can shape policy! Democrat 'surrender monkeys' are just the sort of politicians that follow the effluent flow and say whatever they feel the masses want to hear:
9/12/2001 America is Strong! Wave your Flags Proudly! America's enemies are cowards and we will prevail
4/25/2007 America is Weak, Our Military is Falling Apart, We are to blame for people hating the US.
What's the difference? Almost six years worth of media propaganda.
The universe works in wonderful ways to protect folks from realizing their own position. A retarded person does not know he's retarded. A dog sees nothing wrong with sniffing poop and sheep are not aware they are sheep.
Does this mean I support death and violence? Of course not. All violence, not just "unjustified violence' is reprehensible and society should seek to understand this.
But until the world is 100% composed of conscientious objectors, a military force, a police force, jails and weapons are still a necessity. These can be whittled down in numbers as more become non-violent.
However, a violent group faced only with deterrance by the message of peace and non-violence means only senseless slaughter of the non-violent and a world where only the violent, and the message of violence survives.
So, ironically, some folks understand that the good guys have to understand the violent and what's more have to engage them and have the tools to contain them.
Some folks with trouble distinguishing things, can't tell the difference or the motives when the two engage eachother - all they see is violence and in a roundabout way again unknowingly seek the triumph of violence by attempting to cease the hostilities and containment actions of the fundamentally non-violent.
Educated non-violent folks with broad understandings realize that's not in the world's best interests.
