We're in a decline of civilization.
Two factors contributing to this problem are the latch-key kids who no longer have the strong family ties that keep them involved. As we become even more consumer-oriented with living wages on the opposite end, both parents have to have fulltime jobs just to pay the bills.
The second one I would wage is the "entertainment" industry that allows some of the lousy heavy metal bands and their message, and the developers of the violent video games and movies. We've been shocked by what we've seen and it's showing up in the mental illnesses of the kids and the criminals who have lost touch with reality.
When the teacher or their role model is missing, their values go down the tubes.
This IS the new reality.
