Are that they've become tasteless. Whether the soils are depleted, or because they've genetically modified them, there's very little flavor these days. Fresh strawberries, tomatoes and sweet corn that were a real treat when we were kids are almost long gone unless you go to a farmer's market these days.
I bought some jumbo strawberries from California on sale to make strawberry shortcake a couple of weeks ago, and ended up throwing them out because they were completely tastless. And how did they put the "giant" in there anyway? I didn't want to eat it.
I've been driving by our local natural food place off the highway these past few months, because well....it didn't look inviting and i was always on my way back from the grocery store, but I finally stopped in there last week. Now I won't shop anywhere else. They have EVERYTHING from local growers, including fresh frozen salmon from a local who fishes in Canada and brings everything back fresh. Eggs, milk, vegetables, home baked bread, etc.... I'm beginning to wish I had two stomachs....LOL
