Proven delivery system, too.

Instead of a launched mini probe, I'd suggest a 'spider' -- something with articulated legs, anyway -- on a tether containing data and power wiring. Seems more suited to spelunking, especially after it gets to the bottom.

I wonder how much cable to give it...
