I live in the Portland, OR area and we interviewed vets from a unit of the Oregon National Guard. It was the first overseas deployment of the ONG (in 2004) since WWII. We cover briefly their backgrounds and training, then their arrival in Iraq and initial engagements with insurgents and Syrian fighters enroute to their base camp. Next we covered their routines such as IED detection, raids, patrols, as well as helping civilians. Deaths and injuries are throughout. They then took part in large battles in Najaf and Fallujah. Finally the return home.

The documentary is R-rated for violence and language, and not for the faint of heart. Interesting for me was the soldier on the ground perspective of the war. We tried to make it as apolitical as possible. It should be released within a month as it is essentially finished except for very minor edits.
