just like all other imperialistic countries would have eventually imploded no matter what we did Tom. There's a finite limit on how big a conquering country can become when their supply lines become so long and their support system becomes too distant.
It's not like an imperialistic army is welcomed into any nation. There's hate and discontent bred and the mighty Soviet army, already strained financially back in those days, would've been broken by the same insurgent strategies that killed us in Vietnam. Yeah, they might have gotten farther had we backed off but just maybe it would've hastened their collapse instead. Hell Chechnya still is a festering scab. I say let them have these countries. Nothing stop Communism and Fascism faster than greed.
This is the grand illusion sewn by the warmongers that our intervention with the Soviet military is what killed their economy. Do any of you ever read history books? Starvation and inefficiency was the hallmark of the Soviet system. They were doomed from the moment they set on their course.
For anyone these days to say something positive came from our Vietnam experience is a sure sign of gullibility. It was a waste of lives and resources on an epic scale and emboldened the hardliners on the opposing side.
Sheesh.
