Stupidity, ignorance and the Soviets.
Vietnam was a war against colonialization, against foreign occupation. It was not a war of Soviet domination, or Chinese domination, any more than the US aid to Afghanistan insurgents against the Russians was a war of American domination.
Only an ignorant jerk who not only is completely ignorant of history but glories in that ignorance, who swallows every bite the propaganda-masters feeds him, and refuses to learn could claim otherwise.
Period.
