While the liberal media Conventional Wisdom is that the 2006 election was all about Iraq, in fact it was mostly about a Republican congress that had gotten fat, arrogant, and in many cases, corrupt. Republican ideals like limited government got left behind somewhere back around the Contract With America.

The Democrats somehow managed to sell enough dupes on the idea that they would be different. Of course, they aren't. They were just as bad before 1994, and they aren't going to be much better now.

Frankly, I think Washington poisons anyone who stays there long enough, and even the most fervent "limited government" conservative starts to think "it's GOOD to be the king!"
