Coming up on five years running, I've been going to visit a friend in a small college town in north central Missouri (Fayette, home of Central Methodist U.), who lives across the street from the city park where the fireworks display is launched. Old-fashioned cookout in her back yard, attended by 'all the best people' in town (her dad was the Dean of Students for decades), and front row seats for the pyrotechnics.
Authentic small-town 4th of July -- worth every minute of the 10 hours it takes to get there from here (I've got the 3rd and 5th as vacation days from work, to make the trip bearable).
Other than that, it'll be whatever I can find nearby on the weekends, and work as usual. Check back in the Fall... a trip to Houston is on the back burner.
