As someone whose grandparents were all farmers...

You'd get over being queasy about killing soon enough living on a farm. When we went to Grandpa's place, we knew darn well where the fried chicken came from. And still loved it.

The advantage to raising your own food, of course, is you also know darn well what kind of chemicals, hormones, and other things are on it. Or not on it.

I have no problems with some of those things, and some problems with others. I'm a supporter of detailed labels in grocery stores.
