Unless humanity does the Ultimate Stupidity and wipes itself out, we
are going to spread into the galaxy and eventually meet these Neighbors
one day, for good or ill.
It's called Growing Up. The opposite of never leaving Home is known as
Stagnation and Extinction.
Even if most of the human race decides to never leave the Cradle, a
few will always be determined to escape their confines and set out
for a new land and life. These are the ones who will find out whether
we are alone or not in the Universe.
The benefits of finding ETI will far outwiegh the dangers - which, BTW,
if aliens are bent on wiping us out and can fly among the stars, we won't
have a prayer against them. One fast relativistic ship hitting Earth will
destroy virtually everything on the planet.
So stop worrying and start focusing on Growing Up.
