That reminds me of the Isaac Asimov story
"Nightfall", where a society lives unknowingly in a huge globular star
cluster, as their planet is part of a six-sun system. Every so many
thousands of years all but one star is on one side of their planet and
the remaining star is eclipsed. Then they are able to see all the stars
in their cluster and it sends a destructive shock through the society,
as they thought their entire universe was them and those six suns.
Plus they were not used to darkness.
