Unfortunately you can't make a silk purse out of a sow's ear. Invading Iraq was a terrifically bad idea from the very beginning. It has never been an act that could serve the interests of the American people. This is why I opposed the idea from the very beginning. All one had to do was observe the intractable situation in Gaza and the West Bank and multiple it twenty-fold in order to predict the inevitable debacle.
The elder Bush wisely chose to flush the Iraqis out of Kuwait and contain Saddam strategically and economically. It was a policy that was serving us well. Unfortunately, Junior Bush, like the immature juvenile that he is, chose to upset the apple cart and run amok over Baghdad. We will be left cleaning up his mess for decades to come.
In my own view, I now regard the President as a war criminal deserving of criminal prosecution and sentenced to spend the rest of his days in jail, preferrably at GITMO. Now I doubt that this will ever come to pass, but it is how I feel about the man. He is responsible for the deaths of tens of thousands of innocent Iraqis and thousands of American soldiers...all based upon a lie that Saddam Hussein possessed weapons of mass destruction he didn't really have. Excuse me...but my anger and disgust have been stimulated by your post. I really should temper my remarks.
You are absolutely right...bad times are ahead. Blame George Bush and his neocon cronies.
