It also says a lot about...

...how much tax revenue is generated by high oil prices, monopolies and exploiting illegal immigrants.

In 1999 the US deficit was 'fixed' by the world's US corporation stockholders - unintentionally.

Sometime in the near future the US deficit will also be 'fixed' by US consumers purchasing gasoline & shopping at Wal-mart - equally unintentionally.

But none of this paints a true picture of US spending.

Here we see another view: US in the hole 2.9 Trillion since 1997

Accrual accounting of course paints the worst image of the deficit and adds some negative intangibles without accounting for other positive intangibles.

By the next Presidential elections the GOP will probably be able to point to a cash accounting surplus if gas prices stay where they are or go up. I guesstimate oil companies taxes alone inject a healthy 50 billion per year into fixing the deficit. And as Wal-Mart crushes competition with illegal labor (and then turns around and raises prices in neighborhoods where no such competition exists anymore), Wal-Mart will also assist, albeit a minor role, in helping to plug the deficit.

So ironically, the conservationist, liberal teachers who guilt-trip each student into thinking they have a personal 'deficit' they have to compensate for, are gouged at the gas pump to try and make amends for their own 'mental' deficits.

Life is sweet that way.
