Ideally, one should keep an eye on both.

Speculation and "hot off the wires" news has an important place in keeping track of what's going on. Detailed analysis and more complete information does, too. If you just go with the first, you get info quick, but are vulnerable to information that isn't accurate. If you just go with the second, you will be generally getting good information, but often a day late and a dollar short.

Balancing both kinds of sources is the best way to do it, and use your judgment on the information at all levels.

This applies to all sorts of news and information.

You underrate the people at unmannedspaceflight. While there is "off the wall" thinking there, there is also some pretty good analysis by some pretty smart people.
