This proposal doesn't go far enough.
Why should the more affluent of us pay any taxes at all? The rich put no burden on the public welfare, they buy everything they need. In fact, they buy much more than they need. This means they support the economy with their purchases, not drag it down.
Unemployment would drop with more people making goods and services for the rich to buy, so there would be less poor people. What's more, it is the well-to-do, not the poor, that hire people to work for them. They are the source of jobs, not competition for them.
Besides, by not having to pay taxes, the well-off would give the poor a real reason to become rich themselves. After all, if you were given the choice of being poor and paying taxes, or being rich and not, wouldn't you get off your ass and be rich too? You should not penalize the successful, you should penalize the losers. By taxing the poor, and freeing the rich from paying taxes, we give the poor an incentive to get rich, and the rich an incentive to stay rich and get richer. A rising tide, etc etc...
Besides, we all know the rich use their money to hire employees for their businesses. So if they didn't have to pay taxes, they would have more cash available to hire more people, or to invest in their businesses. They wouldn't have to shelter their income in foreign banks or in dubious tax dodging schemes, or spend any lobbying government or getting their candidates elected. This is so obvious I don't even see why we bother to discuss it.
And one more thing, if the poor had to pay all the taxes, they might be more eager to monitor government to make sure tax money was spent wisely. The government would have no choice but to become more efficient and the nation more prosperous as a result. After a while, we would all be so well off there would be no good reason to be poor at all, we would all be rich and there would not be any need for taxes in the first place.
This is all so obvious. What is wrong with you people?
