Using real names in fiction- what are he rules?
I am writing a Science Fiction work that is set in the near future. I am using fictional astronauts, but I am not sure what to do about the head of NASA. I named him Mike InGriff (After Dr. Michael Griffin). Do you think this is okay to do? Or can I just use Dr. Griffin’s real name. Or should I make up a different name?
I seem to recall Harry Turtledove doing this with John Glenn in one of his works.
What are the rules? It seems dead historical figures are far game, but the living is questionable.
