That depends on exactly WHICH Civil War you're talking about.

Ermine Street Guard

What I've always wondered is who gets to play the dead and wounded guys?

Historical battles were messy affairs and could gen up a lot of casualties in a hurry. Who is going to go to the trouble of joining one of these outfits, buying the full kit, train and drill to look authentic, and then fall on the grass and play dead after the first volley while the rest of the club gets to keep on playing soldier, maybe for hours? Do the rookies and effengees get to be the first wave of the fallen? Or do they pick 'em by lot? And do the simulated wounded scream hideously and writhe in agony (in the interest of historical accuracy, of course)?

I have a friend who's a re-enactor (Seminole Wars) but she's a girl, so she has to play a squaw.
