One addition
If either side has power to be gained from their position, one must take into consideration the relative amounts of power increase each side can realize.
It's what moves me to give additional creedence to the general scientific community conclusions on the issue. Yes, they can garner additional funding for their studies and help promote "liberal" agendas by riding atop an issue that seems to be concerned with global human welfare but, relative to the huge power and financial gain that is realized by the opponents of the the cause, their power gain is negligible.
