There's nothing wrong with speculation...
...as long as it is clearly labeled as such.
Speculation is what suggests experiment and observation, it is the question that demands an answer. But the answer we get may not be what we want to hear.
This may seem trivial to us, but it is tragic how many otherwise intelligent and educated people in our culture cannot seem to grasp this distinction.
