Even inside stars, a lot of possibilities exist for permanent and self-propagating structures, for example, as acoustic standing waves and harmonics, or electrical or magnetic currents. Plasmas allow for the propagation of energy in a variety of forms simultaneously, and energy pumped up from below could maintain the integrity of these structures.
