Fraud, but no US media conspiracy.
This photo is from AFP - Agence France Presse, the other (with a fired slug) originated from AP, if I recall correctly. This babushka has just learned she can make a few bucks by waving bullets in front of reporters, and French papparazzi and their readers are not as familiar with firearms as Americans are.
Now the only thing I can't figure is why Yahoo chose to print this. If this was a media conspiracy, they could have done better than that. In fact, didn't they already print the original, more authentic-looking picture? The action they refer to is the same as in the other report.
