Try some of Mead's books.
I said I liked Syd Mead's vision of a mature high-tech civilization of plenty and peace, not that I thought it was the most likely version. Remember, I watched the Jetsons as a kid, and whaddaya know, here I am in the 21st century and take a look around. A lot of things never materialized, but a lot of other fascinating things did. Many unexpected.
The future is kind of like one of those cats who jumps out of the breadbox when you open it. Heinlein was no doofus technologically, but his spaceships in his 50's stories still used mechanical computers. His heroes a hundred years in the future used slide rules.
The future isn't going to be "Clockwork Orange," either. Totalitarianism thrives on information control, and that cat is already out of the breadbox. Places like China are fighting a losing battle.
