(Part of a Fantasy piece, Necromancers, Changelings, Unicorns, Dragons, Were-Beasties of all sorts. Oh My!
Language is a bit thick, something to revise in third draft. Horalas is a wolf changeling, not a were-wolf, Jassion is a fox changeling. And no, the resident Fox had nothing to do with it. Scene takes place a day or two before the culminating battle.)
Horalas woke to bright morn light, Jassio be in basin. Came soft song, stirring of waters, Lycant rose to join her. Twas rare sight greeted him in rounding screening partition. Smooth skinned woman cavorted in deep basin, twas not often Jassio chose to make change these days. Horalas did same, it had been some few tenday since last he did such. Twas oddly difficult, more painful than was expected. Tall man slipped into heated waters with puzzled wrinkle to brow. At Jassio’s soft query he spoke of difficulties in change.
“Twas same for self, last I did so be near two full moons past. Perhaps form might become fixed if no change made?â€
“Perhaps, tis matter I must examine at length. Many would care little of such, but there must be some who be able to change. Tis matter of trade with humans, tis much we must have in such way. There be salt, tis vital for all grass eater. There be no other place such can be gotten within land about Refuge.â€
“Tis matter for another time dear one, at this moment only matter be small of back in dire need of scrub.†Oval face turned up to him, green eyes held his. “Let us savor short time together with no other concern.â€
Horalas lost self in her gaze, with gentle arm pulling her to him. “So be way of this moment, tis none other in world but you and I.†Couple moved close, faces came together for lengthy deep kiss.
Sun’s light crawled down wall, came soft sounds in room.
Female mouseling approached door to rooms of Lycant, rounded ear caught sound within. With smile, grey furred form turned away. Leaving them to share, twas possible one or other may not see any number of sun’s rise.
As with any who remained within Refuge.
She gave some thought to such dismal possibilities. At last shirking duties for short time to seek out he that placed song in her own heart.
A morning well spent
