No other way to read it. The US military, the mightiest in the world, the same military which has occupied Baghdad for over 4 years, cannot guarantee the safety of US government officials outside of a very, very small area in the capital. It needs a private army to do what it cannot.

And even inside the "Green Zone, even inside the US Embassy compound but not inside a hardened building, US personnel are required to wear body armor and helmets.

How the mighty have fallen. And how the US military has been abused. By their own CinC and CEO.

Some may say that's not failure. Longer than WWII, and Iraq can't stand any more "progress".
