Some small attempts at humor are smaller than others...
I was getting at the flip side, that the family resemblance between "monkeys" (that is, other members of our genetic family) and humans is so painfully obvious that it's a wonder people don't cry "cousin!" upon seeing a chimpanzee (~98% DNA cousin). Creationists and other anti-evolutionists have to be in deep denial indeed to avoid seeing it with their own eyes.
Or maybe the problem is that the resemblance is too close, and it creeps people out. We named chimpanzees pan troglodyte, the troglodyte, "ugly bugger, ain't he?", but notably an anthropomorphic monster. If recall my mythology right, troglodytes can think and speak to some degree.
Species mimicry is a matter of family resemblance. I've seen housecats play lions and tigers, I've seen dogs imagine themselves wolves, and it's not just physical resemblance but a matter of instinct and behavior common to a group of related species. Just as a tabby cat understands stalking as well as a lion, humans understand primate behavior as well as any chimp or great ape. We can talk the talk as well as walk the walk with this monkey business.
