...and often couched inside a long list of my personal failings as a feeling human being and an inability to see the real needs of people. Also, my not wanting to turn my life over to the almighty State apparently shows a deep selfish streak on my part.

This is usually after I've trundled out some uncomfortable realities or numbers on an issue.
