Without needing to go into the details of a failed presidency, this poll shows a 33% approval rating for George W. Bush as president. His failures, our losses, the world's anguish doesn't seem to change that.
I know who a couple of these people are, but not many. I don't see any bumper stickers saying "Slaughter Saddam" or "War is Good". I see about one left-over Bush-Cheney bumper sticker for every 20 or 25 old Kerry stickers. I don't see any "Give Me Credit - I Voted For Bush" bumper stickers. The score is about 10 "Bush Sucks" to 0 "Bush Rocks".
One has to question first the awareness of those 33%. Are they just ignorant, as has been suggested in previous research and threads. Are they also frightened, cold, callous, cruel and short-sighted? Or are they simply frightened, cold, callous and cruel, as we can tell from the results of what they so vigorously promote?
The one thing that stands out in Bush's approval rating is what it says about the regard 1/3 of Americans have for other people. That they are nuisances, without feelings, hopes, dreams, desires. That what is important is more for me, my money, and money at the expense of my country, my culture and my society. That remains constant. Bush can count upon 1/3 of Americans to consistently share those values.
Seems to be the only way to make sense of these polls.
