Soyuz spacecraft
The Soyuz spacecraft is in many ways superior to the shuttle:
It killed at its first manned use and then a little later with a decompression.
But it never killed anybody since....It even saved a crew during a fire at the launchpad.
It can spend more than 6 months in space during a flight. Studies are made for a Soyuz capable of spending more than one year in space.
It carries international astronauts and paying tourists.
It enables the station to be permanently manned (the spacecraft constantly docked to it).
It enables american astronauts to keep flying in space...
And it is so so so much LESS expensive than the shuttle!
