...that you think this is a new idea. It was considered the leading explanation back when I was in grad school... Mars has a minuscule magnetic field compared to earth, allowing more of the solar wind to strip away atmosphere...

The article then refers to the- then future- MAVEN mission saying it will provide more data on the issue... As we see from the news today, it did.
