My feeling about them hasn't changed a lot since they were last in vogue. The security they offer is quickly countered by the realization of what you'd be part of when you emerged.
The people remaining on Earth would be the survivalists of the World - paranoid, isolationist, and greedy folks that were in it for themselves. They'd in all likelihood be armed to the teeth to protect those assets they'd stashed away and most likely a bit trigger-happy.
All those folks you really bonded with that saw their day to day lives and interactions with their neighbors as more important than building a concrete tomb beneath their back yards would be gone, either victims of the blasts or having died painful and slow deaths from the after-effects.
Enjoy your survival Techie. I know you'll get along famously with your neighbors in the aftermath. I think I'll put my efforts into the avoidance of WWIII.
