Art is very personal

We may look at the same piece but we'll perceive it differently, through the windows of personal experience and shaded through the colored glass of our emotions.

All art is part left-brain, part right. They have to work in conjunction. My right brain gives me creative ideas, my left brain spells the words and takes care of the grammar, puts the work into a logical order. Sometimes my right brain gets cooking so fast my left-brain can't keep up and oopsie! typos, missed words. I let my left brain do the proofreading later after my right brain quits playing.

My sister was a psychologist who did a lot of research on the brain. I remember that boys develop more slowly than girls but as their brains mature, they usually develop left/right brains that communicate through the gap between the two so that both sides can work at the same time. Women usually (but not always) lack that. They are either in the left OR the right at any given moment but not both.

I have a feeling I am one of the women who have both at the same time although I have no actual proof of that.

It is this left/right brain partnership that allows more men to excel in certain areas of endeavor. It is, of course, more complicated than that. Women, being the child-bearers, put a lot of their energy into that which leaves fewer women to compete in those areas of endeavor or to put 100% of their effort into their work.

It's a fascinating subject.
