And there was no way to fly in 1880 or to land on the Moon in 1940. You can't solve an issue unless you tackle it. This was brought up at the 2006 MS convention by a speaker who makes her living doing landing calculations. I asked her about this later and she said she thought it could be done if the effort were put into it, but that it wasn't going to be easy.
