re: It is in the books.

now that I think about it, Rita Skeeter may have alluded to it in her book about Dumbledore. I remember there was a part where Harry cringed to discover there was a chapter about Dumbledore's 'special' relationship to Harry though I don't think what that chapter said was ever discussed in the book. I hadn't given it much thought while reading, but were I to read it again, I would probably see the oblique references clearer.

That being said Rowling's version of Harry Potter is as different from mine as mine is different from Tom's or yours. That's because the author isn't the sole creator of the content. By reading it, I created part of the content with my imagination, and likely drew some connections Rowling didn't intend and missed some she did intend. In the version I cocreated as I read Dumbledore was not gay nor did I once think or care what his sexuality might be.

Rowling's additional information after the fact doesn't change the story I enjoyed while reading it, however were i to reread it the experience would change with the added information even though all the words are still the same. That's the beauty of re-reading books.
