Well, I was purposely not making the gay=pedophile connection, but perhaps I wasn't clear enough. However putting a charachter's sexuality on display changes the way you think about their motivations. Dumbledore was asexual up until the point that Rowling made the comment. If I had read it in the book, then read that Dumbledore summoned Harry to his office after hours and was instructed to be sure to wear the invisibility cloak, then its natural to wonder about his motivations for such in light of the new information about Dumbledore's sexuality. That's what I meant about it being distracting from the story Rowling was trying to tell and why I'm glad she left it out.
