I went to school there (Univ So Fla) and that's exactly what happened.
But I don't know if it was the architect's idea.

Also, having stared at aereal photogeraphs of rural areas for years, I can report that cows also find the optimum routes around the dairy, taking advantage of topography as well as geodesics.
