re: Fish and water

"One of the generalizations I can make about "the Conservative mind" is that it feels a constant and generally unconscious need to put down other people who disagree. It's like RL's recent evolution in tactics: "OK, here's a nice sober presentation of the facts...A...B...C...you stupid asshole". The insults are almost like punctuation in Conservative sentences, and I think they no more notice it than fish notice the ocean."

RL is a conservative?

Usually people who buy the Globe Warming religion are lefties, though if I had to say, I would have guessed that RL thinks of himself as a moderate in terms of politics- and [because of this delusion and the common pervasive media spin] voted for both Gore and Kerry.

Though RL's support of nuclear energy use would make him an unconventional lefty- but I assumed that was due to his understanding of science [which granted, would be another unusual characteristic of anyone who leans left].

I would say that a common trait of lefties is the belief in various forms of pseudo science and anti-science in general.

I also assumed that the reason RL wasn't spending a lot of time ranting and foaming at the mouth in regards to Bush [not that I really gave it much thought] was that he wasn't very interested in the subject. But having little interest in politics is another uncommon trait of anyone who is a lefty.

I guess if RL is conservative and I didn't see this, that would indicate a certain degree of blindness on my part- I didn't notice anything [nor did I even think about it] that would make me think of him as conservative.
