At the height of the violence in Iraq some months ago, the Democratic Party was all for pulling our troops out and letting that country burn. The Democrats came into power in January vowing to shut down the war in Iraq as their primary goal, and spent most of 2006 trying to legislate this. With a bit more power in the Congress, they would have pulled it off. The effect of this behavior on our enemies can be easily imagined.
When the surge was proposed, the Democratic Party did its damnedest to stop that in its tracks, too, and when Petraeus later told them is was beginning to work, they called him a liar to his face
Things changed. The Democrats are trying very hard now to erase this all from the public memory. You might have noticed Iraq doesn't make the papers as much as it used to, and to listen to some Democrats, you'd think the surge was all their idea, and that they knew it would work all along.
2008 is all about the economy now. We'll see if their howls of doom pan out any better in that area.
