The man was making a statement, an honest expression of something he'd like. He was not asking anyone to feel sorry for him. But it seems like some here wanted to pile on and judge the man. He has lived his life as he chose to live it. All of us should be so lucky to be able to live our lives as we would wish.
He may not be much different than a lot of charming, wealthy men. He just had the bad luck (or good luck, depending on your perspective) to have the press on his tail while he was at the romance/dating/messing around game.
Now he's older, feeling his mortality and wanting something of value to be around while he makes the long slow exit stage left.
I for one hope it finds it. As I wish the same for me. Of course, I've been alone so long, I'd be a bitch for anyone to live with! :-) OTOH we'd laugh a lot!
