The statement "Every American is obligated to consider the good of the country" is a statement of principle. In fact, it's a statement of high principle that trumps ideology.

It's one thing to sincerely believe that your beliefs are in the best interests of the country. But it's quite another to use tactics to advance your beliefs that are not in the best interests of the country.

Hyperpartisanship has been tearing apart the country for years. Pursuing your agenda through divisiveness and demonization and sowing discord, and using political and parliamentarian dirty tricks, attacking those who disagree with smear campaigns, and disregarding the Constitution and rule of law because you think you're right and the ends justify the means...none of that is good for the country.
