Lindy, believe me I don't discount that at all. It is extremely well documented that people's outlook can have a bearing on their overall health.
However, your example of the 80-90 year old missionaries completely discounts other factors besides their prayer which could have contributed to their longevity including diet, exercise, lack of vices such as smoking and alcohol, and environment. And the prayers they were saying over their food certainly could have contributed to their own feeling of peace and well-being but there's no evidence that any connection with someone on the other end had anything to do with that.
I respect your religious beliefs but the story that you began this post with has nothing to do with what we're discussing now. It's pure snake oil sales.
