I normally don't name animals...
...unless they have some degree of understanding and can be trained to answer to it, like a dog or cat, or to help point them out to my housemate, so I don't have to say "the spider". In this case I had no housemate.
I normally don't run animals out of the house, either, unless they are dangerous, destructive, unhygienic, or liable to die because they don't belong there and can't find their way out. In this case, the spider earned his keep. Cockroaches are probably the only creature I have an instinctive and immediate revulsion to. I kill them on sight, no questions asked.
I don't dress up my pets in cute little outfits, either.
