re: Dams on Mt Everest

If one looks at 20 of largest cities in the world, 3 aren't on the coast. Having a port so one can receive and ship goods via ocean transport is an important aspect.
20 of largest cities of the world:
Tokyo, Japan; Mexico City, Mexico; Mumbai, India; Sáo Paulo, Brazil; New York City, USA; Shanghai, China; Lagos, Nigeria; Los Angeles, USA; Calcutta, India; Buenos Aires, Argentina; Seóul, South Korea; Beijing, China; Karachi, Pakistan; Delhi, India; Dhaka, Bangladesh; Manila, Philippine; Cairo, Egypt; Õsaka, Japan; Rio de Janeiro; and Tianjin, China.

Space is a ocean and in many respects a better ocean than the oceans on Earth. In the ocean of Space, one can sail. On Earth you could sail as fast as 20 mph, in Space you sail as faster than any rocket can go. In space your sail might be a mile in diameter.
You might think that is big, but is it really?
It's almost unthinkable big for on Earth, but in space, maybe a 10 mile diameter sail is a bit on the small size. You might a sail a 100 miles in diameter just merely so someone might notice you in the vastness of space and a 1000 miles in diameter is a more respectable size- for someone in a hurry and someone who doesn't want to be mostly confined to the inner planet region. 10,000 miles in diameter might be too much- only some kind of show off would need to have such a thing.
So sailing would be fun.
Another thing I like about space is how much easier it would be to making things which are big- so many thing are constrained because the gravity on Earth.

One reason we build large buildings on Earth is because it's generally cheaper per sq ft, and land prices generally make building higher better in this regard also.
In space there is a lot of real estate, so generally speaking land prices would tend to be cheaper. But I believe that real estate price in the polar region of the Moon will tend to be very high. Not only that but the higher the building the more sunlight you get. And considering that one doesn't have wind like you have on Earth, you probably have buildings 10 miles tall.
And on Earth a limiting factor to tunneling under ground is the water table and general requirement of needing to pump water out to keep areas to stop them from being flooded- this not a problem for most planets which aren't water worlds.

Another thing that limits things on Earth are the size of the roads [or railroad tunnels, ship cranes, etc]. You probably won't have many roads on the Moon. First, roads are too slow. Maybe there will some roads for pedaled bikes- which probably have top speed of around 200 mph.

Now, if you have big buildings you probably going to need to improve the elevator. So to get around locally you might use bikes and/or elevators [which go sideways & vertically].
If you want to go 200 miles or more, you probably will travel sub-orbitally and if that's not fast enough then perhaps underground "bullet train or car"- when you just *have* go 500 miles in under 5 mins.
