I'm not afraid of the R word - we are in a recession.

ANd the US economic problems are much bigger than the manifestation of the recession we've been in for 6 months. It's not just the conservatives fault and it's not just the liberals fault.

It's demographics.

I've mentioned it before but it is worth repeating - America has been in a controlled dive for two decades. The losses of the big 3, beginning in the 1980s and the transportation industry largely sustained by the big 3, supported 1 in 10 jobs in the US.

The late nineties manipulation of the stock market to generate "virtual" wealth was one way to mask America's sagging industrial fortunes - which is the only REAL wealth in a modern world. Clinton oversaw the greatest smoke and mirrors manipulation of the SEC in history.

Enter Bush. The smoke and mirrors stock bubble doesn't work well anymore. Only fools believe in tens of millions of $80 stock shares of companies hardly worth $1 a share. So a new mask for our sagging industry needs to be created. Thus begins the real estate pricing "virtual" wealth.

Now that bubble has burst and prices are falling with every passing week.

What's at the ROOT of it? America has too FEW industrial jobs, too FEW industrial plants and too MANY service sector jobs, too MANY illegal laborers taking those service jobs and imbalancing an already declining base of objective wealth.

Is the solution going green? No, that is part of the problem just another needle deflating American wealth.

Is the solution building a wall between the US and Mexico? Well, it certainly can't hurt, but as Arizona is illustrating serious employer sanctions are the most effective.

What is the solution?

More factories.
More industry.
More things to export.

Objective wealth in the form of tangible goods.

Service is virtual, real estate and stock speculation are also virtual. Such wealth generation is for the rubes and does not increase America's intrinsic wealth.

If our schools taught Capitalism well, everyone would understand this and would be eager to see a second industrial revolution. Instead, young folks are clueless as to why the economy is bad and why America is becoming the land of the few rich looters and the working poor.

America was richest in it's history during the postwar period of 1945-1958.

Why?

Industrial BOOM.

That boom sustained single income households, kept increasing the standard of living every single year. Car manufacturing, major appliances, homes, small appliances all made it happen.

It's not Capitalism that is the problem. Capitalism is the solution.

A working knowledge of capitalism can help anyone generate personal wealth. Our nation needs a refresher course, to start creating REAL wealth again, before it's really too late to recover. Bring factories home, create the legislative environment which encourages industrial growth and let's make it possible for one income to support a family, buy a house, buy a car outright...

...and live the American Dream
