When I was growing up, killing someone via bullets was depicted as the gruesome and inhumane thing that it is... the closeups depicted the loss of life and even the scripts were and must have been written to play homage to a life lost may it have been innocent or no matter how evil. Notice that it's not that way anymore and that act seems to be glorified now.
