Poll on nationalized health care
Here.
To be fair, the numbers on polls like this tend to drift considerably, and even be internally inconsistent, depending on how questions are asked (and after all, that is the trick with polls).
I've noticed one small thing that I have seen in many, many surveys:
An earlier survey found that just 31% rate the U.S. health care system as good or excellent.
At the same time, people give much higher reviews to their own health care coverage.
It's amazing how often it turns out that people, on a wide variety of issues, think the general situation sucks, but that they're doing pretty good themselves. I suspect this has something to do with an overdose of news media.
Over 80 percent of people are covered by some form of insurance already. Of those, most like the coverage they have. From that earlier survey:
Even among those who have health insurance, just 32% say the system is good or excellent while 38% say poor (NOTE: 83% of those surveyed have health insurance). This supports survey data released last week showing that 62% believe major changes are needed in the nation’s health care system.
However, while unhappy with the situation overall, 72% of those with insurance rate their own coverage as good or excellent. Twenty-one percent (21%) say fair and only 6% say poor. Given these attitudes, the vast majority of voters will tend to be wary of any change unless they are completely assured that it will not impact their own insurance coverage.
Again, this makes little sense until you realize what kind of information they're being fed.
